Is this BW of the Red Rock Escarpment really void of any colour? If it had no colour, would it be pure white or pure black? Perhaps nonexistent?

  1. You get into Ansel Adams territory when you use B&W photography documenting the American West. This photo pretty much shows why it is an effective strategy. Nicely done!

    • Thank you Doug! The man was certainly a master at his craft. BW can totally alter what you see.

      • I used to like to take b&w shots in the dark ages when you had to load canisters of light sensitive film into the back end of the camera. I’m sure you must remember those days, too! LOL! I liked using Kodak ASA100 film for the incredible definition it was capable of. I took one shot of a private club with a gravel walk leading up to the door. The depth of field was artificially extended (for the gravel walk at least) at a point where the gravel and the film grains matched in size. It was magical! I still look at the photo from time to time to see the effect. I miss those little surprises with film sometimes, and realize I can create them through magic editing in camera now, just getting the results faster and cheaper!
