Mall Of Ghosts

As a young man I used to take my gal to this mall to shop and just hang out so many years ago now. It’s just so sad to me to see a part of my young life now slowly rotting away and returning to the dust that it came from. Time is cruel. Time is the fire in which we burn. This is in Waterford, Michigan.

  1. Thanks for the share. I once saw a documentary on TV on abandoned malls! They must have been so full of life.

    • This mall sure was. Not only did I spend time with my gal here, but before the mall was reincarnated to look as it does in the photos, I recall my mother taking me to this mall when I was very young, say 8 years old or so. I can still see the giant, slowly rotating star hanging high above the water fountains in the late 60’s, early 1970’s.

  2. Interesting that this scene is repeated all over the country. The irony is that the shopping mall was in part responsible for the downfall of many small town locally owned stores, as folks drove on those “new interstates” to the big cities and quit shopping locally. One might say that turn about is fair play…

    • I totally agree. A new mall was built across the busy road in what was once a large empty field. It’s the newer kind I suppose that you park and walk to the individual stores with outside entrances. I believe this was largely what happened but of course we have economics, inflation and so on. The new mall is not in Waterford Township neither, it is in the City of Pontiac, Michigan so perhaps there is a dollars and cents thing too?
