I Am A Michigander

And will always be one! American by birth, Michigander by luck. No, I’m not considering moving home to Michigan but when I take these trips back up north it brings back so many fond memories and some bad ones too. That’s life aye? The latest visit was wonderful in spite of the sudden death of my brother-in-law. My previously scheduled trip dates happened to coincide with what happened. It’s so sad. We must go forward…

  1. I figured you were either a Michigoose or a Michigander.

Me, I’m just an Earthling and a content resident of a fairly quiet galaxy.

  2. Well, I am a native Californian but feel much more like a Nevadan, now. California is a nice place to visit, but I got tired of living there.

    • I see. My ex was from Anaheim, we would go down to Costa Mesa from Vegas once in a while to visit her mother. I always despised the trip because of the traffic and very rude people. Apologies, I’m not wanting to bash up your home state, it’s just one guy’s opinion. Strike three, I’m out. I’ll never marry again.

  3. Sorry for the death in your family, John. It is rare, though, that vacation plans coincide with family emergencies. That was one less stress at least.

I wonder how many people place America second when defining their origin. I know I always think of myself as a Western Nebraskan.

    • Thank you Doug for your kind words. My dad thought it ( coincidence) was a bit odd or amazing too. I’m from the lower peninsula of Michigan and call me a Michigander. Those in the U.P., or Da Yooper call us downstate-rs Trolls as we live under (south of) the Mackinac Bridge. How rude! Kidding. You have your eastern and western Nebraska! I’ve never visited your state.

      • The state tourism people came up with a perfect slogan that captures the the spirit of Western Nebraskans at least: “Nebraska. It’s not for everyone. LOL! The video starts out with two Alliance contributions to weirdness, the hay bale rest stop and Carhenge, both a short distance from where I live: https://youtu.be/0mlC43X8ARg
