I have zero idea what plant this is but they grow wild around the desert. This plant was photographed in Calico Basin the other day. Others were drawn to it too, wondering what the heck is this wonderful flower saying ooooh and ahhhh!

It’s a Datura as Ms Viking, Anneli and David commented. Good advice about not using it in your chili. We have them out here. Some with white flowers some with purply-pink flowers.
Thanks, Timothy. π
I think that’s right – datura. Okay to take pictures of, but don’t put it in your chili, John.
I agree, Sacred Datura, a poisonous, hallucinogenic species. Used by Native Americans as a medicinal and for induced divination.
Induced Divination. That’s a new one for me! I just have a few brews… π
It was sometimes used in the Vision Quest ritual when young boys were coming of age. Needless to say, but some of them died.
That’s terrible! They apparently had no idea how dangerous the plant is.
Oh heck no I won’t!! I had no idea it’s poisonous. Funny you’d mention chili, Anneli, I’m eating some right now! π
or a petunia
looks like a morning glory from around here, but probably not for there. It is beautiful!
Thanks, Jodie! According to the comments here, it’s poisonous! Yikes, glad I didn’t touch it!
It’s also poisonous.
Hi Maria! That’s what the others said about it, I’m glad I didn’t touch it!! It’s thriving in Calico Basin right next to the picnic tables, wow!
Yes, that was a good thing you didn’t!
It’s an evil plant, pretty yet it hides a dark secret!
It looks like sacred datura. It’s a hallucinogen, very effective. Beautiful photo π
