Without a police force, we’d have anarchy everywhere, not just in city centers. Can you imagine a family going for a stroll downtown in Seattle or Portland on a Sunday afternoon these days?
I have no idea what the crime statistics are for those cities or any other, but without police, the anarchists would quickly take over. They are the checkvalve that holds back the floodwaters.
