This set of seven photos show the desert just east of Las Vegas Valley. A totally barren landscape that believe it or not, was once a shallow sea over two hundred million years ago! Plate Techtonics ended that era and pushed up the mountains we see today, although they surely looked different those millions of years ago.

Beautiful shots John! Hoping for some rain out this way too. It’s really dry here too.
Hi Sandra, thank you. I hope we both get that rain we need so badly! 😊
Beautiful shots – I really like the road disappearing into the desert landscape. 🙂
I noticed that too, thanks! They look like aircraft runways.
You’re welcome!
Our earth is an amazing place under constant changes.
Hi Kelly, nothing ever stays the same does it? I would miss this desert if I went home.
After all that water, now there’s hardly a drop left behind.
It’s so amazing isn’t it, Anneli?! Some folk find this desert unattractive, I so disagree! Those folk should have a nice long walk among the creosote bushes and other plants.
I used to think the desert was nothing but boring sand. Then we went to Baja for three months of dry camping and really got to know the beauties of the desert. It is far from dead!
