Is that old line still in use today? Regardless, it’s every bit as true today during a pandemic as it were decades ago… This is the local Fire Station in the Mount Charleston area in the Spring Mountains. A big thank you to these wonderful men and women.

I’m surprised to learn that the line was changed. What will Smokey think?! Did anyone ask him if he wanted to be sidelined?
Smokey won’t care, he’s too busy foriging for food and pooping in the wood! 🤪
Okay. As long as his feelings aren’t hurt.
As a child, I used to watch TV (in BW) while laying on a bear fur rug, complete with open jaws and a tongue that I could pull out! Isn’t it so weird that I can remember this crazy stuff, but not what happened a week ago sometimes? 🤪
We remember things that make an impression on us at the time.
Actually you are right in questioning if they still use the line. The phrase was changed officially in 2001 to “Only you can prevent wildfires”. There’s some neat history of Smokey Bear at this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Bear#:~:text=A%20campaign%20began%20in%201944,for%20more%20than%20five%20decades.
Thank you for the link, you two, plenty of info there. I haven’t seen this history before. Smokey is older than I am! I remember the TV commercials from many years ago.
I recognise that place!
Hi Maria! I’m sure you do, it’s on Kyle Canyon Road near the Mount Charleston Lodge. And across from the public library. Do you miss Nevada and California? Have a great weekend. ❤️🇸🇪
