Remembering Bonnie Springs Ranch

If you have followed this site long enough then you will know about my dislike of property developers. Whoever this company is, they have destroyed what was once a wonderful place for families and couples to enjoy.

The other side is that the owners of the ranch must have been in deep financial trouble and saw their way out of them with the property developers’ purchase offer. Such a wonderfully vicious little circle, right? I have plenty of photographs of this ranch but this little engine is a favorite.

It pulled several small cars that would shuttle patrons from the parking areas to the main attractions. The engine was powered by a simple gas engine that sounded like a Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine.

To pull that much weight though, the engine must have been coupled to a gearing system that would increase the amount of torque for the little engine to pull the extra weight.  The grayscale version was made this morning.

  1. Love what you’ve done with that photo. The grayscale gives it a real period feel. I agree, it is really too bad what happens in the name of “progress.” 🙁

  2. I remember at least two episodes of the “Ghost Adventures” TV series that were filmed at this place. Have they started construction yet on the development? According to Wikipedia the Bonnie Springs Ranch et al closed in 2019.

    • I missed that episode, sounds great! No, the place is still barren. I drive down the old entrance road once in a while to see what’s up. Nothing! I suppose that’s good though. Just let the ground return to normal desert. But the place is fenced in, why!!

    • I agree, Anneli. I wonder what happened to the engine, cars and track? It’s still an open field, no work in two years! Maybe the developer went out of business which would be a good thing! 😂

    • It was really fun to walk through, the pond anways had ducks and other waterfowl. The restaurant was always busy… I miss the place.
