Just West Of Town

Just west of town in the open desert as I call it is where I ended up this morning. It’s that wonderful time of year when the summer heat is fading away, and the nights are in the mid to upper 60s. I took a short walk too around Calico Basin. I snapped around sixty photos today, here are just three to begin this little series. These photos are from 50mm Nikkor.

    • Hi Lavinia, how are you guys doing up there? Nice to see you again. The rocks are beautiful, so many colors. This area was once a shallow sea 200 million years ago.

    • Thank you! Much of the desert southwest was a shallow sea here 200 million years ago. People have found seashells in the nearby Spring Mountains which peak at just under 12,000 feet. Amazing!

  1. Third picture: Looks like a good day to ride. Is that geodesic dome in the background a home or a bigger building? Kind of hard to tell how big it is.

    • Hi guys, it’s a home, surrounded by horses, stalls and such. It was for sale a while back, not sure if the property was sold.
