Just west of town in the open desert as I call it is where I ended up this morning. It’s that wonderful time of year when the summer heat is fading away, and the nights are in the mid to upper 60s. I took a short walk too around Calico Basin. I snapped around sixty photos today, here are just three to begin this little series. These photos are from 50mm Nikkor.

Gorgeous, John. A beautiful location for a cool evening stroll.
I can see what they call it Calico Basin. It is a strikingly beautiful land.
Hi Lavinia, how are you guys doing up there? Nice to see you again. The rocks are beautiful, so many colors. This area was once a shallow sea 200 million years ago.
I think we have made it through fire season, and we have had some good rain early this week. I have never been happier to see rain. Don’t have to spend hours spot watering gardens and planting now. 🙂
That’s wonderful, amen!
I love the colour of those rocks, so beautiful.
Thank you! Much of the desert southwest was a shallow sea here 200 million years ago. People have found seashells in the nearby Spring Mountains which peak at just under 12,000 feet. Amazing!
Fine shots
Love the horses and the Dome Home.
Love this John.
Thank you again, Anita! It was so beautiful today. 🌵🌞
Third picture: Looks like a good day to ride. Is that geodesic dome in the background a home or a bigger building? Kind of hard to tell how big it is.
Hi guys, it’s a home, surrounded by horses, stalls and such. It was for sale a while back, not sure if the property was sold.
Picture #1 is especially “sweeping.” I like it.
Thanks! ☺️
Beautiful!
Thank you! ☺️
