I’ve mentioned before how some of the utility boxes that house different things are painted by the locals. Someone did a fine job on this one. During my visits to Calico Basin, it is common to see the California Quails walking about and hiding under the creosote bushes. Read about this quail.

My last time out, there were zero quail, zero ground squirrels, and very few humans due to the heat which keeps the hikers and rock climbers away. I like that! The road photo is Lone Mountain Road looking east.
