That is my thought too, Tim, there are trees nearby about 30 or 40 feet away, plus they have the birdbath. I hope to see that the birds have discovered it soon.

Your setting seems good. It takes some time. I put out a window feeder and it took about 2 weeks before birds started showing up.

Thanks Tim, it’s usually pretty quiet here except for an occasional loud bike or car which is distant. And, an occasion dog being obnoxious.

Do they come to your house roof edge, or top of the windows? It could be better to hang bird feeder there… They can watch they can see and they can eat safely… Cats usually on the walls… Not safety for birds. But I loved your bird feeder… Thank you, Love, nia

There are trees nearby and a birdbath. Maybe the feeder isn’t a good idea…

They are scared of cats

There is one cat that walks the fences but it’s rare to see it on my fence.

I meant the cat that is the bird feeder 🙂

Oh, got it. I have seen a few birds on it today, and plenty of pigeons walking around eating the dropped seeds.

Pigeons are great scavengers

Feeding stations are usually placed near some bushes from where the birds can first quietly scan the area to see if everything is safe. From there it is only a short flight to the feed and back. I see that you don’t really have many (if any) shrubs in your garden. Maybe that’s one of the problems.

Hi Rudi, you are 100% right. I need to have some nice bushes planted to help. My minimalist idea on less clutter may be in play here. ☺️😂

They do not come to the windows, they unfortunately fly into them though once a year or so.

Birds need shrubs and trees to hide in and under. Your place is very tidy and clean but a bird would be highly visible to predators there.

I have had the same thoughts, Anneli, maybe I can put a fake bush close to the feeder. Kidding, but there is a large tree next door around 30 feet away. Maybe not enough?

Your yard looks pretty tidy, John. I don’t know if it’s going to be enough for birds to hide in. I know you like things neat and clean, but birds like it a bit messy, so there could be a problem that way. A couple of bushy shrubs is what you need.

Thank you for your reply, Anneli. The area could certainly use more green, I should consider getting some bids on upgrading the yard. Minimalism has different aspects about this but for me, it is all about a dislike of clutter. Much more I could say but that would not be respectful…

There is no doubt that more shrubbery looks messier. You have to do what you’re comfortable with, but if you have a minimalist, tidy yard, you have to expect that birds would be nervous about being exposed there. My yard is definitely messier than yours, but I can live with that.

Minimalism has different forms, for me it is all about clutter. Call me OCD but it is what it is. I just hope that the birds will eventually feel comfortable enough to visit. Soon.

Fingers crossed. I’m working on becoming more OC. Somewhere there’s a happy in between.

OCD seems to pick and choose, my sister is not OC in any way that I have seen! 😂👍🏻

Yes, I know it does. And there are degrees of it. Not all bad, by any means.

There seems to be a stigma attached to this which is silly. People like this are not nutters. 😂

I know one who is, but there are millions of others who are not. Nothing wrong with being tidy and having a routine. Wish I could be a bit more like that.

I will take that as a compliment, thanks! Clutter makes me unhappy… 😂

Yes, it is a compliment and you can feel good about yourself.
It takes time.
