I refilled the hummingbird feeder this afternoon and soon after this golden cutie shows up. they drink this entire bottle in about a week and a half, so there has been plenty of air traffic in my backyard! My 200mm lens can’t get up any closer to the bird before I scare it away walking toward him. Rufous Hummingbird.
I love these guys, so cute and so tiny! It’s fascinating to watch them.
Judging by the back, I think this might be a ruby-throated hummingbird. We have that kind here. I looked up rufous hummingbird and they are much more brownish-orange. The red throat of the ruby-throated hummingbird isn’t always obvious until it catches the light at a certain angle. I’m just guessing here, but do a search for the two kinds and compare.
I think that you are right, Anneli, I did see one similar a while back. I am color blind which can’t help. They are fun to watch as they quickly zip to the neighbor’s yard and land on the lighting then zip back to the feeder. I spilled the liquid while refilling it in the kitchen, man is that stuff sticky!
I know what you mean about stickiness! But it’s all worth it.
100% worth it. These birds are here all year long but it’s nice to help them. ☺️
