A Sacrificial Anode is a device that helps bleed off electrolysis between water and the boat hull. I grew up around pleasure boats and racing boats, it’s the larger boats that have these devices attached to the hull but electrical contact with the boat is essential for the system to work. I grabbed this image from Instagram, it is not mine but it shows very well why these devices are necessary.
Wow the damage! I did not know the importance of this.
I grew up boating and around boat racing, you pick this stuff up along the way. That lower unit must have been in the water a very long time! The link will tell you much more, Beth. ☺️
