All of the sand and rocks on the road are from two recent gullywashers that caused a lot of flooding in the valley but that doesn’t spoil the beautiful view to the north. The sloping mountain is the west end of the Las Vegas Range which marks the northern boundary of Las Vegas Valley.

The flood didn’t spoil Rocky Road. Actually, it even added a nice “touch” to it, John.
Thanks, Kaya! Las Vegas has a very extensive flood control system with large detention basins and miles of concrete flood channels that move the water to the Las Vegas Wash where it begins a journey to Lake Mead.
